Suzuki South Africa remains at the top end of the best-selling manufacturers table trailing second-placed Volkswagen by a small margin yet comfortably ahead of Hyundai. Within its own ranks, the Fronx which was previously plagued by supply issues, has overtaken the outgoing Swift model as and served as the best seller for the month.

Here is a quick look at Suzuki’s sales statistics for September:

  1. Fronx – 850
  2. Baleno – 752
  3. Ertiga – 717
  4. Swift – 539
  5. Ciaz – 410
  6. Dzire – 399
  7. S-Presso – 325
  8. Jimny – 266
  9. Grand Vitara – 217
  10. XL6 – 57
  11. Celerio – 156
  12. Ignis – 30
  13. Vitara – 2

There has been a shift with Suzuki’s top seller, in place of the Swift now sits the Fronx with 850 units sold during the month. In addition, the Baleno and Ertiga managed to also outsell the compact and popular hatchback during the month but Brendon Carpenter, Brand Marketing Manager for Suzuki SA explains why.

Carpenter stated to CAR Magazine that the previous stock supply of the Fronx has been mostly alleviated, which has allowed dealerships around the country to satisfy customer backlog orders for the model over the past several months. The Swift on the other hand has seen almost half of the sales it normally enjoys. For example, September saw 539 units sold while August saw a total of 1 190 rolling off of the sales floor.

Nothing too amis has occurred other than the runout stock of the outgoing Swift are making way for the all-new model which has already arrived on local soil and will likely continue to grow the Suzuki brand in the country. As a reminder, the hatchback arrives with evolutionary and more mature styling, while powertrain choices are limited to CVT and manual transmissions connected to a solitary naturally aspirated 1.2-litre three-cylinder that puts out 60 kW and 112 N.m. Most impressive is that the model will retail from R219 900.
