The box-fresh Triton has arrived in South Africa, but Mitsubishi has already got some 2025 model year upgrades in the wings which will take the bakkie forward and closer to the end of the decade. Chief of these upgrades is the inclusion of a Euro 6 compliant 4N16 engine which is good for 150 kW and 470 N.m. The outgoing Triton with its current 2.4-litre motor is good for 135 kW and 430 N.m which for most is still sufficient outputs on paper but the latest iteration of the 4N16 will parry it against more contemporary offerings.

Mitsubishi South Africa states that this has all been orchestrated as part of a rollout plan for the next-gen Triton and intends to cater to loyal customers who have something to look forward to after owning a vehicle for between 36-48 months. This intends to create a strong enough iterative product evolution to justify the new vehicle purchase. Over and above this, the 2025 model year Triton, which should arrive around Q3 next year, includes more tech features including the Multi-Around Monitor, a new 9-inch infotainment and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
“Mitsubishi Motors is dedicated to continually evolving our offerings to meet the needs of South African consumers while staying true to our legacy of reliability, performance, and quality.” – Mitsubishi Motors.
