Vintage Cars South Africa (aka Wat Swaai Jy?) has listed an unrestored 1984 Ford Sierra XR-8 for sale. On sale for R599 900, this example is numbers-matching, and has an almost entirely original framework, including the interior. The odometer reads 46 000 km since new.
As mentioned before, there are numbers-matching parts surrounding the vehicle, as proof it is original, with faithful ageing on common wear items like the interior and paint imperfections. A standout feature of this particular example is its lack of over-restoration; leading to preservation of its identity as a South African performance-car icon of the 80s. Original wheels, paint scheme, and matching numbers for the engine are all present; completing what a car a collector may come to expect from a true original.
The Sierra XR-8 was made famous for its title of “world’s fastest Sierra”. As tested in the 1985 issue of CAR magazine, this iconic motor vehicle is powered by a 5.0-litre V8, mated with a five-speed manual transmission. The powertrain produces 161 kW and 374 N.m of torque. When tested by CAR magazine, the XR-8 completed the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.95 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 231 km/h.
