STOP SOONER, DRIVE SAFER: TIMELY REPLACE WORN SHOCKS

As a dedicated installer, your commitment to ensuring every vehicle that leaves your garage is roadworthy is commendable. Yet, are your customers aware of the unsung heroes of road safety? Shocks and Struts play a crucial role in enhancing safety measures not only at the surface level, including seatbelts, airbags, tires, and brakes, but extending further. Here’s why they’re crucial for every vehicle and every family’s safety, and why everyone should know about them.

Testing Worn Shocks in Critical Moments

Drivers all around the world navigate their hometowns every day, their family and (furry) friends comfortably buckled in, trusting their vehicle to stop in time in case an emergency situation occurs, but most of the time, they are unaware of their vehicle’s Shocks and Struts. What if the driver is driving with worn-out shock absorbers? Will it have an effect on road safety?

Recent safety tests* conducted at Monroe revealed a startling reality about worn shock absorbers. In emergency situations, every meter counts.

Safety Test 1: The Stopping Distance – A Critical Factor

Emergency? Stop in time.
Picture this: you’re faced with a sudden obstacle, and you hit the brakes. In that heartbeat, you count on your vehicle to stop in time. The first test performed, the stopping distance test, showed that reliable shocks can be the lifeline for your customer in these situations.

Monroe’s intensive tests* showed that worn-out shocks can significantly extend a vehicle’s stopping distance. The stopping distance of a vehicle with worn shocks can increase by up to 7.6 meters on a dry road—that’s equivalent to the length of more than one car. Just visualize that: a car’s length can be the difference between a close call and a catastrophe.

Can Your Customers Trust Their Vehicle?

Consider the unpredictability: with worn shocks, the stopping distance can vary each time up to 10 meters—that’s the length of a small swimming pool. Your customers cannot trust a vehicle with worn shocks to perform equally every single time the brakes are hit; such inconsistency puts families at risk.

Safety Test 2: The Avoidance – Stability is Key

Picture a scenario where a quick swerve is necessary to avoid danger. Here, stability is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity. Worn-out shocks significantly impact stability, increasing the roll angle. On dry roads, the roll angle of a vehicle with worn shocks can increase by up to 3.9 degrees.

In one scenario, the vehicle equipped with worn shocks exhibited a close to problematic roll angle of 11.2 degrees per second while traveling at 70 kph. A vehicle can tilt dangerously when the roll angle reaches between 12 to 14 degrees per second, emphasizing the critical need to maintain control over the vehicle’s roll angle and keep the tires firmly on the road.
But why should your customers care about this technicality? Stability equates to safety. A stable vehicle is far less prone to skidding or flipping during sudden maneuvers, ensuring the safety and well-being of every occupant inside.

Empowering Your Customers with Knowledge

Share these real-world test results with your customers. It’s not just about a smooth ride; it’s about confidence, safety, and peace of mind. By installing quality Monroe Shocks and Struts, you’re not just ensuring road safety for your customers; you’re providing them with a durable solution.

When it comes to choosing the right Shocks and Struts for replacement, durability is crucial. That’s why Monroe offers an industry-leading 5-year warranty** on all qualifying Monroe products. Our Shocks and Struts are designed with premium and unique features to ensure durability.

*To test the effect of worn shock absorbers, often occurring in older vehicles, Monroe tested with two vehicles (one with worn-out shocks and one with new shocks) and performed two tests: stopping distance and lane change test. A vehicle with worn shocks where oil and gas are draining and a vehicle with new shocks. All other suspension elements of the two vehicles tested were equal, including a new set of tires. Tests were performed by a professional driver from Monroe Intelligent Suspension at JESCO automotive training school in Belgium.
**5-year warranty. Limitations on certain product groups apply. See https://www.monroe.com/en-eu/support/warranty.html for full terms & conditions. The 5-year warranty is valid in Europe and South Africa only.
