The new-generation BMW 1 Series is well on its way to South Africa, with the latest iteration penned in for introduction in the fourth quarter of 2024. Here’s how much you can expect to pay for the 118 and M135i xDrive that will land here first…

New BMW 1 Series Pricing in South Africa

When launched in SA, the new 1 Series line-up will comprise a duo of petrol-powered derivatives, the 118 (indeed, petrol variants, bar the M Performance model, have dropped the ‘i’ from their model denominations) and M135i xDrive, with the 120 scheduled to arrive here in 2025. Expected to be included in the pricing are BMW SA’s two-year/unlimited km warranty and maintenance plan spanning five years or 100 000 km.

  • 118 — R713 395
  • M135i xDrive — R982 767.80

Of course, for those wanting a sportier-looking 118, BMW also offers it with the M Sport package, which lifts this front-wheel-drive variant’s standard asking price by R40 000 to R753 395.

As a reminder, the new 118 employs the BMW Group’s 1.5-litre turbo-triple, which drives the front axle via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. This petrol unit is good for 115 kW and 230 N.m of torque, the latter of which is available from a mere 1 500 r/min. BMW claims the three-pot 1 Series completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.5 seconds, before topping out at 226 km/h. The claimed average fuel consumption is 6.4 L/100 km.

For the new M135i xDrive, BMW has uprated the pinnacle 1 Series’ power output by 8 kW to 233 kW. Curiously, however, the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit now transfers 50 N.m less torque to all four corners (via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission) than the outgoing model. The peak torque figure is now 400 N.m. The result is a slightly slower 0-100 km/h acceleration time, with the new 135i xDrive dispatching the obligatory sprint one-tenth of a second slower than the previous generation (4.9 vs 4.8 seconds). The top speed remains 250 km/h. BMW claims this model sips, on average, 7.6 L/100 km.
