The latest Vanquish employs a completely reworked version of Aston Martin’s 5.2-litre, twin-turbocharged V12, which, as opposed to many new high-performance cars, doesn’t incorporate electric assistance. Coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission, this unit features a strengthened cylinder block and conrods; redesigned the cylinder heads, which feature updated camshafts; incorporated fresh intake and exhaust ports; repositioned the spark plugs, and new fuel injectors with an increased flow rate.
Thanks to these mechanical upgrades and fitment of reduced-inertia turbochargers, the Vanquish is considerably faster in the straight-line and top-speed stakes than its predecessor. Endowed with 614 kW and a whopping 1 000 N.m of torque, the latest iteration sprints to 100 km/h from a standstill in a claimed 3.3 seconds, five-tenths of a second quicker than its forebear, before topping out at 345 km/h.
Stopping power is provided by a set of carbon-ceramic brake discs, measuring 410 mm and 360 mm at the front and rear, respectively. The six- and four-piston callipers are sited behind 21-inch alloy wheels, which are wrapped in mixed-size, 275/35 and 325/30, Pirelli P Zero rubber.
