The new BMW M2 CS has set a new Nürburgring Nordschleife record, with the most powerful M2 dethroning the Audi RS 3 sedan as new King of te ’Ring in the compact-car category. Driven by BMW M development engineer Jörg Weidinger, the upcoming M2 CS completed a lap around the 20.8 km northern loop of the The Green Hell in 7:25.5 minutes, nearly eight seconds quicker than the RS 3 sedan’s June 2025 time of 7.33.123 minutes.
As a reminder, the M2 CS’s 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six produces 37 kW and 50 N.m more power and torque than the “standard” S58 powertrain employed by the non-CS M2. The special edition is exclusively equipped with an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and retains its rear-wheel drivetrain.
According to the German marque, the M2 CS’s M3/M4 Competition xDrive-matching outputs — 390 kW/650 N.m — allow it to complete the obligatory 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.8 seconds, an improvement of 0.2 seconds over the car it is based on, before breaching the 200 km/h marker 7.9 seconds later — the latter making it 1.2 seconds quicker to the two-tonne than the M2. The M2 CS tops out at 302 km/h (up 17 km/h over the M2).
Under the skin, the M2 CS further gains model-specific updates to the chassis, which has been lowered by 8 mm, and suspension setup. An M Compound braking system is standard fitment, while carbon-ceramic items can be specified at additional cost. The special edition rides on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear alloy wheels, wrapped in 275/35- and 285/30-size tyres, respectively.
The M2 CS is scheduled for a European market launch in the third quarter of 2025, with South African introduction following in the second quarter of 2026.
