The new LEGO mini F1 sets provide oodles of fun for the young and young-at-heart. But who is the quickest at putting each kit’s 29 pieces together? We staged a build-off challenge to find out…
In December 2024, LEGO unboxed 10 new F1-inspired Speed Champions kits, each representing one of the teams on the F1 grid. Designed for LEGO enthusiasts and F1 fans from as young as 10 years old, these brick-built replicas are not only fun to build, but also look great on display. However, what if you’re not yet in your teens? Well, earlier in 2025, LEGO released a dozen 29-piece mini F1 sets for fans from as young as six years old.
Similar to the Speed Champions models, which we reviewed earlier in 2025, these collectable sets, each sold in a mystery box to add a welcome level of surprise to the purchase, include all of the 10 F1 teams’ race cars, though add another F1 car and an F1 Academy car to the collection.
However, these new sets can also be enjoyed by young-at-heart adults. So, in July 2025, CAR magazine Editor Ian McLaren challenged his nine-year-old son to a build-off to see who is the quickest at assembling these models. And it was so much fun that we decided to stage another one.
Priced at R69, you can grab these kits at your nearest LEGO store or online at LEGO Certified Stores.
