Starting off the list is a fairly new addition to the South African market, the MG3, which launched here in August 2025. The MG3 we tested was specified in Luxury trim grade and powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, mated with a CVT. This five-door hatchback measures 4 113 mm in length and 1 797 mm in width, and tipped our scales at 1 207 kg.

Tipping our scales at just over one tonne, we evaluated the four-speed automatic Toyota Starlet Cross (in flagship, XR guise) for a road test in the February 2025 issue of CAR. Sharing its underpinnings with the Suzuki Fronx, the Starlet Cross employs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-pot producing 77 kW and 138 N.m of torque.
