Building upon their long-standing venture, GWM and WesBank have updated their partnership to make financing a GWM model more affordable for South Africans.

The alliance between Chinese automaker GWM and WesBank is aimed at making GWM vehicles more accessible to South Africans by simplifying the purchasing process. Richard Pampel, WesBank CFO, explains how the partnership benefits buyers:
“This new agreement is a game-changer for vehicle finance in South Africa. It enables WesBank to truly liberalise vehicle finance and significantly aid affordability for GWM customers. By collaboratively managing risk, we can reduce the total cost of credit and the monthly instalment without needing traditional tools such as increasing the loan term, making vehicle ownership more accessible than ever before.”
The partnership also stands to benefit GWM by making its products more attainable, potentially increasing sales of the already popular brand in the local market.

“This new agreement and its direct benefits to the customer will undoubtedly strengthen our appeal in the South African market. It reinforces our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality vehicles and will build on our recent successes,” stated Kevin Li, Managing Director of GWM South Africa.
The announcement comes after GWM received a Gold Award at the NADA Dealer Satisfaction Index (DSI) Awards. The brand was also recognised as the Most Improved in the Passenger/LCV category. The renewed joint venture is expected to build on GWM’s growing success, fuelling continued growth and customer satisfaction in the local market.
As a reminder, in June 2025, GWM was the best-selling Chinese automaker in South Africa, with the Baoding automaker placing sixth with 2 288 new cars sold; an increase of 219 over May 2025.
