Arriving as refreshed C4 and C4 X nameplates, the newcomers debuted at Citroën’s stand at the Paris Motor Show and continue to contend as quirky coupé/SUVs in the C Segment. Differentiated from each other by silhouette, the C4 combines coupé-like dynamism with SUV-inspired cues, while the C4 X blends the elegance of a fastback with the practicality of a spacious 4-door sedan. One of the most noticeable updates is the redesigned front end, inspired by Citroën’s 2022 OLI concept. The front features a new logo and a streamlined radiator grille which aids in improved aerodynamic improvements. Looking at the sides, the use of new 18-inch aero wheels are touted to further improve fuel efficiency.

The interior of both models now features Citroën’s Advanced Comfort seats with thicker foam for increased support which when combined with the “flying carpet” suspension provides a comfortable driving experience. A new 7-inch digital instrument cluster complements the 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which offers advanced features like 3D navigation and wireless smartphone integration. Adding to the tech appeal, the vehicles now integrate ChatGPT through SoundHound’s voice recognition system, offering a more natural and intuitive interaction for drivers.
Citroën’s commitment to electrification is also a key focus in these updated models. Alongside the zero-emissions electric versions, the C4 and C4 X introduce new hybrid options – the Hybrid 100 and Hybrid 136 – which offer a versatile and eco-friendly driving experience without the need for charging infrastructure. The full-electric models deliver up to 425 km of range, with rapid charging capabilities that recover up to 80% of the battery in less than 30 minutes.

The C4 and C4 X are equipped with up to 20 advanced driver assistance systems, including active safety braking, adaptive cruise control, and highway driver assist. The C4 and C4 X models have not been on offer in South Africa and are still unlikely to arrive, particularly after the French firm has only found success with its more affordable offerings locally. As a reminder, the Indian-built C3 and C3 Aircross have proven to be stellar products for Stellantis South Africa while the more plush C5 Aircross has not fared as well.
